Beans a la Sol..and the gopher topples the ficus tree

Last week I got an oven that cooks with only sunlight for heat. It's cool (hot...to 350F sometimes). Today I cooked a big pot of beans outside while I sanded a table. It came out great. It will let me cook stuff without heating the kitchen, a big deal in the summer here. The girls love it because they feel like it's their play oven that really cooks real food.

Yesterday I came home to find the backyard Ficus tree nearly flat on the ground, supported by only one remaining root. The gopher had eaten the rest. This pic shows it while I was packing it back down and adding gravel to increase support and protection against the vile varmint's teeth.
For those of you who think I'm a little weird in my perpetual campaign to exterminate this vermin, realize this is the 4th or 5th tree I've lost (all were nice ornamentals I'd planted) to gophers. Plants grow well and suddenly crump when the gopher eats the roots from underground. I need dynamite...he makes new mounds nearly every day.

You should start your own Reality show...Living with Kirby. But I bet those beans were goooood.
There are solar paneled rodent deterents that you can get via the internet. My clients bought some and they are now on their way to being gopher free. I will find out where they got them and send you a link. Hi to Sunny and the family!

That darn gopher's still there!? Hasn't this battle been going on for about a year now? We need to have a gopher intervention!

I'd totally watch the reality show. Kinda like a survival-comedy-real life-drama mish-mash fantastico. Nielsen won't know what hit them! ;) I'll pray for your tree's roots.

We have gophers bad here too...someone told us to put castor beans in a plastic bottle and put it in one of their holes...the noise is supposed to scare them away...Good Luck! Cool oven!
