Fish that jig under the 'rig'.

Saturday Keith and I paddled kayaks out to the closest offshore rig, 2.5mi off the beach in front of Bob Hall Pier. On the pier's surfcam you can see this rig as a black dot on the horizon right of the pier here: http://www.bobhallpier.net/webcam.shtml. We caught plenty of fish who liked to wrap around the baranacled platform legs and saw the lines in half. I brought up 3 red snapper but kept none. We saw a sea turtle a few times. We sat on that rusted metal monster for 3.5hrs and it was incredibly relaxing and surprisingly not hot as we were shaded the by rusting megaton structure and needed nothing to eat or drink the until returning home feeling kinda sun-fried and sore 5hrs after leaving. Half a mile closer to shore is a new standpipe about 50ft high that Keith climbed. At the top is a series of megaphones that emit a high-pitched ping every 20 seconds which he said rattled his head once he got up the ladder. You can see him waving from the top. Late at night, if there's no wind or noisy surf and the island is real quiet, I can heard this ping from the house on the back porch.
