The large amount of rain lately caused the cancellation of city fireworks on the bay, but on the nearby beach the locals put on their own display. A big fatty storm was rolling in at 9pm with lots of lightning. This made for a double show: The beach and breakers were alternately illuminated by fireworks and lightning with pops and thunder. The storm changed the normal wind from the ocean so that it came off the dunes instead which allowed mosquitos to pester us the 20 min we had before the rain came. It was great to watch as you smacked your arms and neck, even if it was short lived.

July 5th a.m. more rains came and our street was under a few inches of water. This wouldn't be a big deal except that a tropical storm or 'mild' hurricane could easily triple this rainfall. Our storm drainage isn't what I would have expected.

Holy Cow!!! That’s a lot of aqua!!! I am surprised your girls didn't try and go swimming in it. We didn't watch the fireworks here in McAllen but our block set off a few. I never thought the day would come that I would be upset at people setting off fireworks in town but Noah kept waking up. I wanted to put on a muu muu, point my finger, and yell at all the neighborhood kids!!! I feel old!

Was it too deep to skim? Nothing like watersports immediately outside your front door. :/
Yikes! I didn't know it was that bad. I almost went off the road on highway 22 'cause my truck hydroplaned (sp?). Well, at least your plants are getting watered. Mine would be too if I hadn't already killed them all!
That is a scary thought when you think about what a hurricane could do. My kids have been boogey boarding in the rain this past week on our street, though not as much water as yours.
that is wild!
Your girls are crackin' me up in that water. They'll swim anywhere and in any weather!
