A few days ago I looked in this candle and noticed (luckily I wasn't lighting it) a hollow-point .357 magnum bullet in it. You can't tell by the pic but it was partially buried in the wax. Less than a week prior I had used this candle in the night. How did it get in there and why was it stuck in there deep enough to require a fork to dislodge it? Most likely a toddler (Claire) put it in there. How was the wax still that hot? Was it in the window and softened by the sun? Where did the bullet come from? I haven't shot that pistol in nearly a year...and it's stored away. It creeps me out to think I had that just rolling around under a bed in a room with a lit candle and apparently in toddlers' reach. That would have blown big. It's got at least twice the powder of a 9mm for those who need a comparison. You can't overemphasize the Murphy's law potential in a house of toddlers. Look at everything from BOTH the impossible AND worst-case scenarios.
In less scary events, I got this beach shade this week I'm using whe

n my parents come to help me watch kids next week when Sunny goes to NYC.
It should be cool. If it works in Corpus wind I'll take pics and tell you.

Claire has recently been spotted paddling her pretend kayak in the play room. She builds several new ones a week. Often Gwen and her paddle way out to sea and Claire is knocked overboard, nearly drowns and spends a long time laying on the floor "waiting to wake up" while Gwen attends her with a lab coat she puts on.
I found this rare childhood pic of Led Zepplin singer R

obert Plant in mystic forest.. his mum reports he was singing "...in a tree by the brook.." . I think he looked

a lot like Gwen. He later grew up looking similar, but more like a guy.

Locking up ammunition is a good safety tip and one we need to implement soon. Thanks for the heads up! Gwen is way prettier than Robert Plant, however, Robert Plant was quite pretty (at least in this pic).
Wow, Kirby...scary! I'm glad you're all A-ok!
Love the story of the Kayak & the Lab Coat...imagination is a wonderful thing.
And I agree with Crissy...Gwen is BEAUTIFUL. Robert Plant...merely average. :)

Gwen is such a beauty, Kirby. Just like her mom. The bullet photo creeps me out. I'm terrified of guns. I have never held one, and Alisa swears she's going to get me on the range to fire one. We'll see about that. Glad that you found this safely!
For the record I totally recognized Robert Plant! So does that say something about our age? or just that we are super cool (in thinking about it, saying 'super cool' also ages me).
Ahhh ... Your blog is the much needed comic relief that I've needed this week. Scott and I are both reading and enjoying. Perhaps it's the lack of sleep and stress that's doing us in, but I can't help but wonder what the world would be without Kirby???!!
I've been wondering where I left my bullet...
Wow, scary!! But a very cool picture.
That cool tent will be covered in sea gull poop on the first time out. I'm pretty sure they'll use that as a target.
When Seth was a toddler he put 2 of my grenades in the toilet! Scary. Think of that worst case scenario.
The ol' "bullet in the candle" trick. That reminds me of the good ol' days when I taught the kids to juggle some old rusty hand grenades, and the time Hunter found the keys to the family tank and nearly leveled the whole neighborhood. Oh man, those were good times....
